I easily see three types of ship. Long range cargo, science explorer, and colonization ship.

A small-ish Haber bulk transport sketch:

It has a decent deltaV, but very low thrust and not too good maneuverability. And the crew won't have much comfort. But at least it is cheap as dirt.
