Alpha channel in patterns

nozmajner mentioned this might be a useful thing for better showing wear and reducing those jagged edges that pattern textures tend to get, so I did it in #2449:

I still don't have huge amounts of confidence when it comes to doing proper OpenGL work, so I'd appreciate it if someone that does know what they're doing could take a look and make sure its sane.

That's exactly how I imagined it. You sure work fast!
And it looks more organically part of the ship surface without those abrupt boundaries.
