Since there are some new cursor designs possible, I though a crosshair variety might be a nice addition to whatever else might be considered.
In four available colors:
mouse_cursor_1 Cyan
mouse_cursor_2 Red
mouse_cursor_3 Yellow
mouse_cursor_4 Blue
The active point of the cursor still needs to be adjusted to the center of the crosshair.

Re: Crosshair cursor
Another.. albeit more cosmetic cursor/crosshair hybrid, (including one with drop shadow)
..Also, another minor variant of the previous crosshair style incorporating red with black & white for more universal visibility.

Re: Crosshair cursor
Would you like these to go into the game proper or are you happy just having these as a-mod/mods?
Re: Crosshair cursor
red one in the second post is one pixel lower then the other ones. I don't know if that matters.

Re: Crosshair cursor
Thanks impaktor Good to know ;) - not that it matters too much at this point since the crosshair center isn't the activating part of the cursor ATM (hope this can be addressed ASP)impaktor wrote:red one in the second post is one pixel lower then the other ones. I don't know if that matters.
Yep, go ahead use them if you like.FluffyFreak wrote:Would you like these to go into the game proper or are you happy just having these as a-mod/mods?
I also created a couple of new additions - a tad more traditional & appropriate perhaps ;)

Re: Crosshair cursor
Updated some cursors with drop shadows, added a few new color variants, repositioned cursors graphics to as close towards the active click zone as possible.

Just so you're aware, the hotspot is settable in the game code, and could be brought out to config pretty easily.baobobafet wrote:Updated some cursors with drop shadows, added a few new color variants, repositioned cursors graphics to as close towards the active click zone as possible.
Re: Crosshair cursor
Here comes the nitpicker again :)
They sure look nice, but I'm not really a fan of having a crosshair as mouse cursor. It implies attack/shoot instead of action which doesn't really fit for the context of the UI in my opinion. An arrow or triangle like shape is closer to what we are conditioned to.
I'm not sure about the drop shadow either, especially if it's that far from the cursor. It felt detached from the UI.
I was playing with cursors too, a while ago mostly:
I'm not really satisfied with this one, it needs quite a few iterations to be any good.
And I think we should replace that steering cursor for mouse flight control too, it's one quite odd. (crosshair isn't really fit to this one either, since you aren't shooting to that direction.)

Re: Crosshair cursor
Good nits, I think. But lets not complicate early. Get the basic pointer right, with some thought for future development and style, and go from there.
