Music Contribution

Post by franzo »

Hello! I am Francesco.
My friend and I wanted to create some good music for this awesome game. I actually streamed the game once, on my Twitch channel featuring Opensource games and while playing I had this idea.

We would like to contribute to the project.

You can listen to something we have made here. We already worked to other games and I think that a good music is essential in a game like pioneer.
Also, I wanted to ask what type of license do you need specifically for the assets. Will CC-BY-SA be enough?

Here there are the demos

Sounds very good!

I don't know if you saw my reply on IRC, but since you're streaming (and making music), and want to make contributions, we could also use some instruction-videos, short tutorials or similar, if that would be of interest to you.

Yeah I saw your reply! Could you explain better your idea? Do you mean using my video content and crop it to make some short tutorials? Or do you need music for video tutorials? Or do you want me to do these videos? :)

My thinking was just a few minute video for how to get off the ground, control the ship, plot a multiple-jump path or something (note: would have to be from current master branch, since much has changed since last release).

A second video could show flying without auto pilot, but I think we have plans on improving orbit view which might happen the comming months (or years...).

The reason I suggest it to you was:
- you seem to like the game, want to contribute, and don't mind recording yourself.

(Music in such a video isn't neeed)

The only other main contributor here is WKFO, but I don't know how much time he has currently.

I am yet to check out your music but I'm glad you are here and you wish to contribute. (Sound work has been lonely so far, with original soundtrack composers having left the project many years ago...) I'm not really free this week so I probably will not be on IRC.

All music on Pioneer uses CC BY-SA 3.0.

I have been thinking of making video tutorials myself but I never got past the thinking part :P, so feel free to take a shot if you want to contribute further, as impaktor suggested.

Ok, now I understand. I would like to do that but I would like first to work on some cool music tracks!
Good job (bravissimi)
thanks, grazie!

Oh, we are happy to contribute then!
I noticed there is no music in the menu (last stable release)
I would suggest to create 1 menu track and one game track if you all are ok with that.

I've done a little demo. Can I post it here? Is there a way to post here the attachment without posting here an external link?

@franzo, perhaps use some upload service? (you could put it on github, but if you're not familiar with git, that's a rabbit hole / time sink to learn)

I created an Account on Nextcloud so the files will stay there. Here we go! This is just a demo and it's just made by 2-3 instruments. But it gives you an idea.
