Wave Variant Mod

An alternate to the standard wave

Made into a mod to appear as an additional ship ie: "Wave Explorer Class" in the shipyard alongside the regular wave.
In HiRes 2048x2048 & LowRes 1024x1024 skins-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated for version 20140217, Wave-e with 2 custom Pilots of my own design added to the facegen.

Image

The pilots will appear as additional characters 1 male (blue uniform and helmet) and 1 female (gold uniform and helmet)
Since putting my facegen work on hold, the individual helmets and breather components will not be usable by other characters in game.

These are fixed characters that will never change in appearance - therefore these will also randomly appear in place of other
generated characters within the game - so don't be surprised when you on occasion, run into someone wearing the same outfit.

edit: the odds of this happening are 1 chance in 63.

The chances of this happening can be reduced somewhat by increasing the number of other face generating possibilities - this can be
accomplished by adding my 'facegen upgrade'. Available here: http://pioneerspacesim.net/forum/viewto ... ?f=3&t=158
(the custom pilot upgrades will work independent of this mod however)

The Wave-e also has received an additional incremental upgrade to it's thruster tag configuration.

Note of Caution: Due to the problems with firing unguided rockets for all ships, it is recommended not to equip any ship with these
until a fix is made, since firing them will most likely crash the game.

---------------------------------------------- Update for pioneer-20140205 ------------------------------------------------------------
Due to continuing upgrades on the existing Wave model, it seemed more prudent to adopt it, rather than continuing
to use the original flawed older wave model. The trade-off is that the scale is now reduced back 25%.
Until an upscale solution materializes with all the additions, - it should serve well enough as an
interim model to offset compatibility issues with current pioneer versions from 20140205 onwards.

The majority of the original Wave-e stats will remain the same.
(To coincide with the scale change, I have altered one feature that may be restored at a later date.)

The number of crew stations has now been reduced to a maximum of 3 from the original 5.

The Wave-e will now also be classed as a 'heavy fighter' (In spite of it's re-size) as it still supports far more
armament options than the Wave medium fighter, including the perk of designating crew to weapons positions.

Added to this version is the Wave-e's own customized Auronox ship lines decal.
(also changes Auronox's Wave fighter decal)

Since it adds features: cargo/fuel scoop, optional crew of 5, up to class 4 hyperdrive, more cargo space etc.
I opted to use the original Wave model before it was rescaled down 25% as an interim upscale solution.

While advanced monocoque shell construction on the Wave-e can increase internal space to a point, a proper volume
calculation is likely to require additional scale adjustment to the model.

Thruster and engine outputs have been minimally upgraded to compensate for the additional mass and cargo load.

Not as nimble as the Wave fighter, I have tried to tweak the Wave-e's performance to be somewhat comparable.
Keeping in mind, the wave-e is a heavier craft, I have purposefully opted to underpowered as opposed to overpower
thrusters which marginally increases the flight difficulty level for piloting this ship.

This will be most obvious at launch, especially if you have a full cargo load, since you won't attain the same height
as the Wave fighter when launched from the pad. Be prepared to engage and maintain vertical thrust manually
during any lift-off should you require it.

Stats: Wave Fighter - vs - Wave-e type

Forward accel (empty) 25.6g - vs - 20.9g
Forward accel (laden) 13.8g - vs - 10.9g
Reverse accel (empty) 8.4g - vs - 7.0g
Reverse accel (laden) 4.5g - vs - 3.6g

Weight empty 13t - vs - 50t
Capacity 30t - vs - 100t
Fuel weight 22t - vs - 60t
Weight fully loaded 65t - vs - 210t

I further edited the Wave skin adding some dirt streaks along with some details to better distinguish it from the standard Wave fighter. Also added the "Explorer" class logo. The rear access hatch and a few other widgets have
been scaled down 25% to comport with the slightly enlarged ship size.

Some custom pattern experiments to add more variety to Wave-e appearances.
All patterns are included in both 'clean' and 'scratched' variations.

Specular map added.

There are some nice patterns on it. :)
This would work better with a separate model, made for the exploration task my opinion. A simple upscale is not the best way for doing it since even then it's quita a cramped craft, and given the vastnes of the universe which makes exploration flights quite long, we might want to give some more living space for the crew.

Those are some great skins, I can't wait to try this out later :)

Wave is for very, very tiny pilots. Perhaps small dwarfs. :))

Wave, Swatch edition! (add Jean-Michel Jarre tune) Very nice and glamour. :)

Is it possible to make it a little more "fat", or increse the size of its belly? To differentiate it from the regular one, and let the increased capacity be more visible.

Thanks everybody for the comments ;)

Walterer - A special serum makes the crew shrink before boarding ;)

Tichy - fattening/inflating the model might work if I could find the air valve? ;)
- It's a good idea though, unfortunately I'm not a modeler - so if anyone wants to try
fattening up the wave-e slighty, I would be happy to use that as an alternate model.

@baobobafet, would these skins work on the regular mini-Wave too?

Patterns should work okay apart from a couple of lines where the Explorer logo is.
Wave-e skin on the other hand has other changes like logo, dark streaks, resized details and rear hatch

A rough mockup of a 'pregnant' Wave-e - the top is the same only the hull shape in changed to rounded.
Moved intake nacelles to the sides (instead of down the middle) flush missile doors could be added instead of the present
open bay system. In place of the radiation logo on top - I added an observation dome - or telescope/laser turret could be another option.

This sort of config would add significant more internal volume while still being able to use the same patterns. Although the bottom part of the Wave-e skin would need some re-doing - and I don't mind doing that.

Here's a better mock-up - (front view) less rounded and with side angular intakes - leaving lots of room for a large forward hatch/cargo or fuel scoop.
