Little ship, opl Barnard Xylophis short range shuttle
Re: Little ship, opl Barnard Xylophis short range shuttle
Tight and orderly :)
You want to have the holes where the heatsings go empty, because then you can copy the texture depicting the heath sink, so it will show up on lower lods witjout need for any additional geometry. I soetims do the same fot the outside of the landing gear, so I can do a lower lod withhout even the hole for it.
You can use multiple maps, but it's not adviced, especially for a ship this small, because they eat up memory fast. I'm sure you can sqeeze in the missing stuff to this map.
I don't know, what's with the videos, theye were working for me on youtube. Camstudio can do strange things though, so I'll check it out.
Edit: they work for me.

Coming along nicely.
I think you shouldn't put lines on the edges, it interferes with the form.
I'd say you should put some plating lines on the hull too. I usually do that in inkscape, it's quite fast that way. Then if it's ready, I use it as a shallow bump map too when doing the texture compositing in Gimp.
For the chipped painting, using a hard brush is much better. I usually paint it on the model in Blender with a full white, a bit jittered brush, then use it as a mask in Gimp to show up the underlying prime coating and hull material. And also put it on the specularity mask, sothe areas exposed are more shiny. Also, when you have the plating lines in place, you can add soe weathering to those too, and in both times you should take the flight direction into consideration, that way it ads definition to the form and a because you consider the flight direction, it adds a bit of familiarity to the viewer too.

Looks and works fine! :)
Now it only needs a AO pass in the texture. Just do an AO bake (I'd use 10 samples) to a separate image file, and put it over the diff in gimp and set it to multiply. Maybe adjust the contrast a bit, so it doesn't darken the thing too much.
And some details, like optics and such. You can use the one in the svg file for the Amphiesma in the asset repo.
It might be a good idea to increase the contrast a bit on the spec map too, there isn't much shininess anywhere right now.
Great! It's almost ready. :)

Nice!
I'm a nitpicker, so pardon me. :) There's a bit of room for cleanup on the lower LOD. (on the RCS blocks really).
You should post it on the issue tracker for inclusion.

how you merge faces without touch uv-map ?
