New Era Star Control

Post by WKFO »

I don't know if there are any Star Control fans here, but if there is, you may know that a new Star Control game has been under development for some time.
Actually, you may know that there are in fact two games under development.

The original developers of Star Control II (Fred Ford and Paul Reiche) has announced a direct sequel to the game. (Star Control III is non-canon as it should be :)) They called it "The Ghosts Of Precursors".

But some company called Stardock Games has acquired the rights to the franchise from Atari and began developing a game called Star Control: Origins. (what a creative name) Anyway, they aren't doing so bad actually; as far as I saw, they are keeping the key gameplay mechanics in place and improving on it. But two dev teams got into a fight of some sort. (Read more here: https://www.dogarandkazon.com/ and https://www.gofundme.com/help-fred-amp- ... ber=333940) I wish the best for both teams so they can develop their own game without blocking each other's path. (But Stardock seems like they want to block those guys.)

I have SC2, but never really played it, but I know it's a game I really should play, and probably would love. (Same with Reunion)

I just find it hard to "waste time" playing games today, when there's so much to do, read, program, write, etc.

I played SC2 a lot back in middle school age. I never completed it though, and I was usng that money cheat with the shuttles.
Quite an interesting game, I'm curious, how they will revive it. But I kinda feel like impaktor these days, so I will just watch some gameplay videos on youtube to check it out most likely, and call it a day.

"How Star Control II Was Almost TOO Realistic | War Stories | Ars Technica"

blurbs:
- "It was important to us for each ship to be highly differentiated"
- "Our own love for sience almost sucked all the fun out of the universe"

I'd also pick out " our ships weren't at all balanced one on one..." following with that your selection of ship is what matters most, but that's not that relevant to us.

Talking about game design and showing some code I think?: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1641548577
I have barely watched a few minutes of it, but may be of interest.
