I was surprised we didn't have any on this game, but I know jpab talked about it a bit in IRC back when it was more active, before it's dev wen't insane.

Anyway, I just wanted to document some ideas for scanner / finding information on objects:

Dev video 13 introduces (radial) scanner v. 1.0:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBf1odVtlWk&t=7m37s

dev. video 14 introduces (linear) scanner v. 2.0 (in frequency space):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8SOZxCXokg&t=3m8s

Some interesting ideas there, like if you've seen the signal before, one could state how good it matches the current one, or attack ships with the sun in your back, to mask your signal.

Also, dev. video 15 on the dynamic economy, driven by AI mining to generate supply and AI demand of goods is interesting.

Yeah I've been watching this game now for several years, seen release deadlines come and go...

Given the trauma that Josh, the sole developer, has put himself through (he suffered a mental breakdown that took him out of action for quite a few months), I wish him all the best.

I'm also quite intrigued by the idea of the commodity market using underlying AI activity to drive prices. I hope this makes it into the final cut (Josh has of late taken off his 'idealist' hat and put on the 'pragmatic' hat in order to get this game finished).

If / when it gets released, I'll be buying a copy - the dev logs and dev videos alone have been worth the entry price.

He is apparently using Lua + C now, after his own limit theory language proved too inefficient.

Wow, the guy worked on it for six years? That's tough for sure.
I suspect the open source community will pick it up, and hopefully he will be able and interested to chime back in after recovery.

I feel bad for him, and all his suffering.

I wonder if the source will be under GPL?

I was very interested in his dynamic economy system...

Damn that is interesting, I knew they had quit working on it but not that the source was available to read.
The scope of it was immense and I hope Josh is proud of what they did manage to achieve.

There must be a lot of interesting stuff in there.
