I have literally been dreaming of this game since I was in middle school and N64 introduced 3D environments to video games.. I may have to move back into my parents house and quit my job when that thing comes out...

There's some concept art which is worth looking at on the edge-online site : http://www.edge-online.com/gallery/no-m ... -concept-h

I really like the No Man's Sky concept and artwork, and I used to work with their art director Grant years ago, but some of the media coverage is quite annoying.

Take Stuff.tv's coverage: http://www.stuff.tv/how-build-your-own-universe/feature
It's like they've not even heard of Elite, Frontier, Elite: Dangerous, Space Engine, or Pioneer or indeed a tonne of others that I can't be bothered to Google.

Is it just because of the trees, grass, water, rocks, animals, instanced wrecks and the sci-fi book cover styling? ... All of which is admittedly very very pretty and difficult to do well.

I just wonder why it's generating so much more buzz than other games like ours manage?

That's a good question. I'm sure they do quite a bit of marketing behind the curtain, droping notes to bigger game blogs and alike.
I'm curious, how that game will turn out. Visually it seems a bit toylike for me, but in the good sense. (Looks far more interesting then Star Citizen to me)

That's the thing, I know that they don't really go in for a lot of that.
There's some socialising, and a couple of demo's but most of the interest has taken them by surprise.
They've got magazines beating a path to their door at the moment.

I'm too lazy to start a new topic, so I'll just steal this one by posting about another indie spacegame, Flagship, which seems to incorporate some of the ideas of No Man's Sky, i.e. First person space game, although the twist is this is 4x strategy game.

Not done by Hello-Games themselves I'll add, just random fan-art.

Well the latest trailer is released and once more I am agog.
They've got a page up on the site today with the trailer and montage of interesting places they found.

I think everyone should read this article about procedural generation in NMS using their "Blueprints" system.

It's light on detail and heavy on wonderment but interesting all the same.
