Hyperjump (& black hole) visuals
Re: Hyperjump (& black hole) visuals
That's one nice effect
Re: Hyperjump (& black hole) visuals
That simulator, and a video I saw the other day got me thinking about the hyperdrive visuals again.
I've put together a rough mockup of how it could look
I'm not saying that it is fully realistic, but tries to lean towards that. It compresses everything into a narrow cone forwards the ship, but does not go to a full-on "seeing the Big Bang background radiation" levels.
In-fiction reasoning: if we assume that the hyperdrive is akin to a warp-drive, then there could be a field that maintaints the warp bubble, and also protects the ship from the excessive x-ray and cosmic radiation it would otherwise experience. And that blue shimmer is just the visible light that comes from that filed interacting with all that light.
I've also added a bit of Star Wars star streaking (barely visible, might benefit from some more, because as far as I understand, that can happen too at relativistic speeds, especially FTL. Not full-on infinite lines, but some elongation.
I'm also opening up the FOV to the max. Not sure how it works currently, but for that part, cockpit and world camera would need to be separate.
I've added some camera shake to show some force
I'm also thinking how it would look towards the rear, and I suspect it would be the opposite: the FOV would narrow, and would shift to red, until it would go to black upon C, and than back at arrival.
