Is there a debug version?

The game crashes so much, i have to save before & after every spaceport, this has been happening for 3+ months worth of dl'd Win builds, if i was running a debug build perhaps i could be giving more info so that people could help see the reason for the constant crashes:

There's no automatically built debug version, I could build one for you but it won't help much without a debugger to debug - although it might give us a dump to debug with.

Do you have a compiler? Visual Studio 2010/2012/2013 will work on Windows. That would give us the most info.
You say it gets ingame but then crashes at spaceports?

It might have been fixed already. My crashes stopped when #2547 was merged.

I have Visual Studio 2010 installed, that's where my 1st code window is from above, i'm running the latest Pioneer version, however, it will crash even at the title screen if i wait 10-15 minutes, i have to save all the time and re-start the game constantly, ever since i started trying to play Pioneer months ago. I'm not sure if #2547 was merged in the SF Win builds i run, i would love to submit anything that will rid this bug.

So you've got Visual Studio 2010 but are running a pre-built version? Now I see why you want the pdb's.
Unfortunately the version that you can download isn't built with visual studio, it's actually cross compiled using mingw (I think) on robn's linux/debian build machine. So there are no pdb's for the downloadable build.

Possible routes to take then are:
  • that I build you an exe in my copy of Visual Studio 2010 against a specific build, you grab that build, copy over the exe with symbols and pdb.
  • you grab the two repositories from GitHub (You can just grab them as zip files) and build it yourself using Visual Studio 2010
The two repositories you'd want (in ZIP format) are Pioneer: https://github.com/pioneerspacesim/pion ... master.zip and PioneerThirdparty: https://github.com/pioneerspacesim/pion ... master.zip.
You just extract both of those to folders beside each other, so within the folder you extract them too you'd would have the folders:
  • pioneer
  • pioneer-thirdparty
The visual studio 2010 solution is just in the folder "pioneer\win32\vc2010\", then you can build as Release (fast), PreRelease (fast but with some optimisations disabled and more debug data) and Debug (Full debug, no optimisations) and of course launching it from Visual Studio will give you the debugger by default.

@Core, I am willing to build you a Debug version, zip it all up complete with pdb's etc by the way.
I just wanted you to know the other options in case you wanted to try them instead.

Yes, i would like to download a pre-made debug build (with pdbs as needed), i think i do not know as much as you or to deal with repositories, i trust my understanding of the details of what you posted for me to compile will grow better in time, i apologize in advance for my lack of experience building in VS2010. The links above give me: 403 Forbidden Request forbidden by administrative rules.

Yeah sorry, just been busy so not had chance to do you a version yet. I don't use the VS2010 project myself, just vs2012 and vs2013express ones which I try to keep up to date.

To use it:
- Download it (http://sdrv.ms/1aVD8rr),
- Download the latest pioneer build (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pioneer ... z/download),
- Extract the Pioneer build and then,
- Extract the exe's, dll's and pdb's over your existing pioneer executables,
- run any of the 3 executables in that ZIP.

The file "pioneer.exe" is just the release build with no debug info and all optimisations.
Whilst "pioneer-prerelease.exe" is debug with most optimisations.
Finally "pioneer-debug.exe" is debug, no optimisations, full debug info. It gives the most info, and logs the most info, but it runs much slower than the other two.

Start with "pioneer.exe" and see if you have the crash still, sometimes there's a difference between the Visual Studio builds and the MXE builds, rare but it does happen.

Thank you, Pioneer build pioneer-20131126-win32.7z crashes after ~18 minutes. Pioneer.exe crashes after ~22 minutes. Pioneer-prerelease.exe crashes after ~22 minutes also. Pioneer-debug.exe crashed after a lua script assassination error red pop up, then restarted it andjust waited for the crash, and it did in about 30mins.
