Sounds in space

I have just heard that sound does not propagate in void space.
Maybe outside atmospheres we should not be able to hear enemy explosions and their weapons, but in general only the sounds produced within out ship.

Anyway... here is a funny way to produce sounds for weapon :D

That could be good as a mod, but not hearing anything outside your ship doesn't make a really fun gameplay.
Star Wars had a workaround, which said that the sounds that come from other objects in the void of space are generated by the ship's computer to increase the pilot's awareness.
