Re: Atmospheric flight

Post by WKFO »

I did something, but it crashes at runtime and I'm stuck until I can figure out what is wrong with my repository.

Anyway, I'm not sure about so many lift and stall variables, but the atmo-stability will surely help me a lot. I will have a better look at the rest, later.

The purpose of the stall angle parameters is to reproduce something like the plot in this article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stall_(fluid_dynamics)
Basically, the lift should depend linearly on the angle of attack for small angles, but for AoA larger than 30 degrees or so, the lift starts to drop off because the airflow above the wing becomes turbulent.

The side slip parameter just makes it so there is some lift if the ship is moving sideways or backwards, but less than if it is pointing straight. This is because the wing is only going to be optimized for one direction of airflow.

These parameters could probably just be kept constant rather than being ship-dependent.
