Cpanel - reworking

Post by bszlrd »

Just so it's visible here too, not just on IRC:
After some talk with dv-/dvolk about the panel I (re)started redoing the cpanel/dashboard to match the NewUIs look better.
Especially after he told me that I can use larger image files for the elements of it, so it doesn't pixelates beyond ugh.
Here's the mod file. (please test)
Here's how it looks now:

Icons are from the same WPZOOM set the NewUI uses (where there was appropriate available). I try to match the ones I create with that set.
My intention is to leave the scanner area blank, as is on that screenshot above, the scanner ellipse is fine on it's own.

It works nicely with the map screens since it occludes a lot less than the old cpanel.

Looks awesome.

I assume it would be easy to remove the old Ui buttons on that star map screen while we're on the subject any way, to use "fake" NewUI buttons.

Replacing that oldUI button would be quite nice for sure.
Everything should be replaced in this version, but there are some rough edges here and there.

I like this new look, and have said so in the PR.

Is it still using the old CPAN interface or the new GUI system?

Actually I don't know why I asked that since I'd looked at the PR and know it just updates the icon art :)

There's another PR about resizing the Scanner up at the moment.

After some discussion we've decided... that it needs some more discussion ;)

There are a number of good arguments for shrinking it, and a few against - they're already visible in the discussion of the PR so I won't repeat them.

Do people find some scanner/radar systems good or bad?
What do you like about the good ones?
What's wrong with the bad ones?

There are previous threads discussing the UI and HUD including one for the splinter project Paragon to take a look at before wading in.

The smaller scanner is now in as an option, so feedback would be good.

I like the smaller scanner on my big 19"-monitor but it is way too small on my 13" laptop, running in windowed mode. By too small, I mean that it's difficult to see if the ship is above or below the plane, since I hardly see the blob on the stick.
