A simple interface that downloads a file which contains the latest version number and checks it against the installed version then informs you if you are not using the latest version would be nice.
The file can be expanded to include some news about Pioneer.
Of course in a non invasive way.

There's an ongoing effort by robn to get us onto Desura so that updates would be automatic in future, for players not developers of course, but it's time consuming and I don't know when he last got the chance to work on it.

I haven't done anything on it for quite some time. Mostly because it's all admin stuff, and I'm having enough trouble finding time for code at the moment, let alone paperwork stuff that I don't really enjoy very much.
An in-game notification to say "new version available" wouldn't actually be hard to do. I do have a web client that I haven't merged yet, that could take care of it. Actually downloading and installing a patch is much harder, but not necessary in the first instance.
