Feature request: Ship lights

Post by MirceaKitsune »

Since custom light sources appear to be supported by the engine, can we consider giving ships headlights the player can toggle? I wasn't sure if this may have significance at first, given the ship spends most of its time in the air where there's nothing to see up close and shine a light on... however I noticed some ports are poorly lit and it can be hard to see where you're landing, whereas you may land inside small stations or fly in the vicinity of other ships you're trying to look at or attack, a powerful frontal and / or downward spotlight might make sense.

As a bonus we could even consider a ceiling light for the 1st person cockpit, so you can see the buttons in dark areas more easily. Or when an alarm sounds to warn you, a red light on the dashboard could flash to illuminate everything and draw attention! I'm sure a few useful ideas for ship lights exist.

If we build a light switch into the ships, or as extra equipment, people are going to build things to explore in space. Satellites that need repairing, asteroids to investigate up-close, etc.
