Re: HUD and UI ideas - mockups

@Luomu: Is there a build available for your HUD experiments? I kinda like that tumblr about huds. I was especially happy when I saw the G-Police one. Also really like those motion trails and motion-direction feedback. I've updated my mock-up a bit, with a target info display next to the reticule, a ...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

Also a good question NeuralKernel brought up: Shields . What are those? Is there any quasi-technical or quasi-scientific writing/idea how they work? Or it's just there as a trope and without any further explanation? I'm quite unsure about them, because there are a few implications to them, like that...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

@Tichy: Partially that's why I think it's an interesting thing for a game (and I will check those books for sure). But maybe it's harder to immerse yourself this way. Life support is mostly a volume/size question mostly. @Luomu: I agree about medium ships. They are more sensible for this kind of gam...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

There's lots of wiggle room between "Primate in a Can" and "Sapient Computer Program". Fortunately. And that wiggle room has some quite interesting questions. Once I was thinking about something similar to the neural interface, but without a capsule filled with liquid. But the p...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

@TheBob: So all in all, I don't think that life support is really a design consideration for this setting. Exclusion is a design choice too, so... :) It's more of a volume question anyway, so yeah, it's not that important, but I think it's worth talking about it a bit. @NeuralKernel The Character is...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

Right now I'm sketching an article about basic ship structure, and another important question about life support popped in my mind. Are there any believable food/water/air/etc generators? How much we have to store, and how much we can replenish on-board? I think we have some room for wiggling in tha...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

Droplet radiators are to elaborate in my opinion. I also can just repeat what robn said: Its probably ok to give a nod to the problem (so "visual cues") and then not worry too much about it. If realism would make for a crappy game, then make something up! One example of that nod are those ...

Art inspiration album

A fluffyfreak said, let's collect some inspiration we feel good about. And discuss and dissect them throughout. :) Let's collect material for that mood board. I'm asking you that don't just collect concept art and paintings and such from artists around the world, but let's get a lot of inspiration f...

Re: Art Style Guide for Pioneer - brainstorming

@Fluffyfreak: Yes, that would be nice, but I'm afraid that might be very chaotic in a forum thread quickly. Some kind of image board would be better. I will start a thread about it and we will see if it's usable in forum format. It might be a good idea to have a separate art board anyway, to reduce ...

Re: HUD and UI ideas - mockups

Thank you. I choose gray because of it's neutrality, so it won't overshout the color clues of the orbital displays. Aren't the radials are the plane change (inclination change ones). Normal and antinormal are more like for rotating around the apsises. At least if you consider normal as outward from ...
