World lore

Ive just taken a look at Pioneer again, still seems to be lacking what I would call "lore". a game engine with varying objects and things to do with those objects but no "spirit", no who, when, where and why. Ive long wanted to make a difference there and started this time by loo...

Economy rebalance

Regarding this project, I thought that maybe the effort is a bit too... premature? What I suggest is to first establish a metric to compare with and measure success by, like "profit/day", even making it into a configurable amount that can be referenced in code. then once the code has reach...

Re: Game saves vs scripts

I am (or used to be) maintainer of an IRC bot and I handled savefiles like this; instead of writing out the data in a weird format that needed to be interpreted by new code, I wrote the savefile pretty much as a program, using existing commands that would re-create the current session perfectly. Its...

Re: Combat delta-v conundrum

yes I remember the jousting and I dont think you can ever get away from that by capping delta-v and restricting G-forces. what you want is non-newtonian physics. which in my opinion can be done with a "combat-module", alter the physics during combat, not during the whole game. I dont think...

Re: Combat delta-v conundrum

ok, make up your minds. whats the problem? close combat or interception? acceleraton or top speed? I thought Pioneer was a game of exploration, combat and trading. But you seem eager to nerf exploration and trade into oblivion just to have combat Pioneer was clearly based on Frontier and as I recall...

Combat delta-v conundrum

What Ive been told is that the issue with high delta-v is that it makes combat too difficult, so, my thoughts on a possible solution: New module: Higgs Projector reasonable range, spin-up, duration, cool-down Increases the mass of a target by an amount that drops delta-v to manageable speeds. How to...

New commodity: Proteins New module: Refrigeration unit, or possibly an environment unit that can handle both live cattle/slaves (life support) and frozen meat/etc (refrigeration) When generating systems and planets, having each civilization (settlement) given an appropriate template for its economy ...
